New course! The Anthropology of Monsters and Supernatural Beings

Anthropology 3W03 C02 - Special Topics in Anthropology: The Anthropology of Monsters and Supernatural Beings Fall Term 2018 Wednesdays 7:00 - 10:00pm

Jun 13, 2018

This survey course introduces students to the anthropological and folkloristic study of supernatural beings and their roles in various societies and cultures.

Weekly readings will focus on specific supernatural beings (Vampires, Elves, Jinn, Masalai, Witches, Wendigo, and others) from a wide range of cultures, and how the four sub-fields of anthropology and related disciplines help us understand the context, background and use of belief in these beings.

Students will focus on their critical analytical, writing and speaking skills through regular discussion and a course project focused on producing competent research papers.
